Jammu and Kashmir's ruling National Conference and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party have condemned the police's decision to prevent the funeral prayers for Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi at the Jamia Masjid, citing the move as a regression of rights and trust in the region's governance.

The authorities closed the mosque using barricades and dispatched security personnel, which sparked a debate over the implications for peace and stability in Kashmir. Police have yet to comment on the situation.

PDP leader Iltija Mufti labeled the authorities' actions as 'cruel', further criticizing the absence of relief even post an elected government, suggesting it reinforced a broader policy of repression.
