In a significant ruling on Tuesday, a Delhi court handed down a life imprisonment sentence to former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar. This decision stems from his involvement in a murder case connected to the infamous 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja delivered the verdict for Kumar, who faced charges for the deaths of Jaswant Singh and his son, Tarundeep Singh, on November 1, 1984. The complainant, Jaswant's wife, alongside the prosecution, had argued for the death penalty.

According to the prosecution, a violent mob armed with deadly weapons was responsible for large-scale violence against the Sikh community, including the Singh family, in retaliation for Indira Gandhi's assassination. An investigative team eventually took over the case from the local police.
