The stampede unfolded amid a significant swell of passengers waiting for trains to Prayagraj, where the Maha Kumbh is being held. Platforms 14 and 15 were particularly overcrowded, particularly after delays exacerbated the situation.
Acting Delhi Chief Minister Atishi confirmed the death of 15 individuals upon arrival at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, many among them women and children. Additional police forces have been dispatched to the hospital, while several injured individuals continue to receive medical care following the incident.
