Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, has commended the Hawks and other law enforcement agencies for their swift and effective response in securing the safe return of nine-year-old Emaan Fatima, who was kidnapped outside Dreamland Primary School in Buffalo Flats, East London.
The young girl was found near the Inyibiba Police Station in the early hours of Wednesday, 12 February, marking the end of a harrowing ordeal that began the previous Tuesday. Her safe return is the result of the relentless efforts of a multi-disciplinary task force, which included the Kidnapping Task Team of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Hawks, East London Public Order Police, the East London Flying Squad, and Provincial Hostage Negotiators.
Following an extensive investigation and coordinated law enforcement efforts, three suspects—aged between 20 and 67—were arrested and formally charged in connection with the kidnapping. They appeared before the East London Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and were remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
Premier Mabuyane expressed his gratitude and relief over Emaan's safe return, acknowledging the trauma experienced by the young girl and her family. He also lauded the dedication of the law enforcement officers involved in cracking the case.
"We commend the Hawks and all involved law enforcement units for their tireless commitment to justice. The abduction of this innocent child sent shockwaves throughout our province, and we are grateful for the swift action that led to her safe return. This case underscores the importance of collaboration between government, law enforcement agencies, and the community in the fight against crime," Mabuyane stated.
The Premier further assured residents of the Eastern Cape that the government remains resolute in tackling crime and ensuring the safety of all citizens. He called upon communities to remain vigilant and work alongside law enforcement to combat criminal activities.
The investigation into the kidnapping is ongoing, and authorities have vowed to ensure that justice is served swiftly.
