Sierra Leone is tackling an extradition request from the Netherlands concerning Jos Leijdekkers, one of Europe's most notorious fugitives. Leijdekkers, found guilty of cocaine smuggling, has been residing in Sierra Leone for six months, a prosecutorial spokesperson informed Reuters.

The Netherlands, lacking an extradition treaty with Sierra Leone, submitted pertinent documents on Monday. The Sierra Leonean attorney general is currently in the process of examining them to ensure appropriate legal measures are taken.

The case is set to be discussed in court as Sierra Leonean officials stress adherence to their legal system, pending a judge's ruling on the extradition request. Information Minister Chernor Bah reiterated the country's commitment to lawful and sovereign governance.
