More than 260 weak and hungry Rohingya refugees, primarily women and children, landed in Indonesia's East Aceh district, according to officials on Monday.

Authorities, including police, military, and the UN refugee agency, are collaborating to gather information about the group that arrived Sunday evening. East Aceh police chief Nova Suryandaru emphasized the importance of coordinating with the UNHCR for further action.

International appeal for aid has been made by Indonesia after a stark increase in Rohingya refugees leaving Bangladesh's overcrowded camps. The Rohingya, a minority group fleeing violence in Myanmar, struggle for citizenship and safety across Southeast Asia, with Malaysia recently denying entry to several boats.
