In a significant crackdown, the Delhi Police have arrested three people in connection with an online betting syndicate linked to the Big Bash League currently taking place in Australia. The operation has led to the recovery of nearly Rs 20 lakh cash and advanced electronic devices employed in illegal gambling activities.
Acting on a crucial tip-off, a police team from the Central district raided a location in LIG Flats, Motia Khan, on January 2. The raid resulted in the arrest of Rohit Mahajan, identified as the mastermind with a history of similar criminal activities, along with associates Nagesh Bhasin and property owner Rajeev Chopra, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan.
During the operation, the police uncovered various software tools used for logging bets and devices intended for live-streaming cricket matches. Six mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, and other gambling-related materials were seized. Further investigation into the betting ring continues, DCP Vardhan confirmed.
