In a noteworthy crackdown, police have arrested two men accused of defrauding a woman of Rs 26 lakh on the false promise of securing her a job as an assistant professor at Delhi University. The arrested individuals, identified as Omkar Yadav, 30, from Kherki Baghanki village in Gurugram, and Sandeep Kumar, 38, from Hasangarh village in Rohtak, were apprehended on Thursday.
According to police officials, the victim's brother, Ankur Rao, filed a complaint noting that his sister, Pooja Yadav, had applied for the teaching position but did not pass the interview held on October 7. The accused, Omkar Yadav, had manipulated Ankur into believing he had influential contacts at the university who could facilitate his sister's employment.
The deceitful scheme came to light when Ankur agreed to pay an amount that initially stood at Rs 35 lakh but was negotiated down to Rs 32 lakh, with Rs 15 lakh already transferred. The duo intended to demand an additional Rs 5 lakh, but the fraud was uncovered, leading to their arrest and investigation under police custody.
