Just days after China's announcement to build a colossal dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet, India expressed concerns about the potential impact on downstream regions, particularly Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The construction project, estimated at $137 billion, is in an ecologically sensitive Himalayan area.
The dam's implications have prompted India to urge China for transparency and collaboration with downstream states. India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stressed the necessity of protecting India's interests and maintaining ecological balance.
Despite assurances from China that the project will not harm lower regions, Delhi remains wary. Diplomatic and expert-level discussions continue, seeking to ensure that downstream states are consulted and not adversely affected by the upstream developments.
