New Syrian Leadership Seeks Inclusive Government Post-Assad
Syria's foreign minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani, on a visit to Saudi Arabia, expressed the new Damascus leadership's desire to form an inclusive government following Bashar Al-Assad's ousting. The announcement aims to reassure global powers of inclusive governance and engages Arab nations for regional stability and investment opportunities.
In a significant diplomatic move, Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani, representing the country's new leadership, met Saudi Arabian officials to discuss forming a government that includes all segments of Syrian society after the fall of Bashar Al-Assad last month.
During the meeting in Riyadh with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Al-Shibani outlined Syria's vision for a unified government and the initiation of an economic development plan aimed at improving living conditions and fostering investments.
As Islamist rebels, once affiliated with al Qaeda, now lead Syria, they seek to convince Arab and Western nations of their commitment to inclusive governance; this occurs against a backdrop of changing Saudi-Syrian relations, moving towards normalized ties to counterbalance Iranian influence.
