PM Modi Lays Foundation for Delhi's Development: Housing, Education, and Infrastructure Take Center Stage

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Delhi, marking a significant step in the Central Government’s mission to build a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2025. Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister extended New Year greetings and shared his vision for India as the world’s third-largest economy and largest manufacturing hub by 2025.
Housing for All: A New Era of Urban Development
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring every Indian citizen has a pucca house by 2025. He highlighted the handover of 1,500 new homes to beneficiaries under the Central Government’s housing initiative in Delhi. These “Swabhiman Apartments”, as he referred to them, symbolize dignity, self-esteem, and a fresh start for families transitioning from jhuggis to permanent housing.
Shri Modi announced plans to build an additional 3,000 homes in Delhi in the coming year and reflected on the success of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), under which over 1 crore homes have been constructed nationwide. “Delhi’s poor and middle-class families will continue to benefit from these schemes, with expanded efforts to construct more homes for urban poor families,” he said.
Modern Infrastructure and Urban Transformation
To address the growing challenges of urbanization, the Prime Minister announced accelerated development of the Narela sub-city, along with the approval of traffic decongestion projects such as the construction of a tunnel from Shiv Murti to Nelson Mandela Marg. Shri Modi highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance Delhi’s infrastructure, including piped natural gas connections, expressways, and modern housing complexes for government employees.
“These projects not only improve living standards but also align with our mission of transforming Delhi into a world-class urban center,” he stated.
Advancements in Education
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for new campuses of Delhi University’s Eastern and Western wings, to be located in Surajmal Vihar and Dwarka, respectively. He also announced the construction of a new college in Najafgarh, named after Veer Savarkar.
Underlining the government’s commitment to quality education, Shri Modi praised the National Education Policy (NEP) for its focus on inclusivity, particularly for marginalized communities. He announced plans for a new Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) headquarters to facilitate modern educational practices.
“Education is the key to a developed India. The NEP empowers children to pursue their dreams in their mother tongues, ensuring no child is left behind,” he said.
Criticism of State Governance and Call for Reform
Shri Modi criticized the Delhi state government for mismanagement in sectors such as education, healthcare, and pollution control. He accused the state of failing to utilize funds under schemes like Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan and blocking the implementation of Ayushman Bharat, depriving citizens of healthcare benefits.
“The Central Government has been fulfilling its commitments, from housing to infrastructure, despite the state government’s failures. Delhi’s citizens deserve better governance, and we are committed to delivering it,” the Prime Minister declared.
Healthcare and Welfare Initiatives
The Prime Minister underscored the establishment of 500 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Delhi, providing medicines at 80% discounts, and reiterated the Central Government’s commitment to expanding the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to elderly citizens above 70 years.
“The state government’s refusal to implement Ayushman Bharat is a setback for Delhi’s residents. The Central Government remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure quality healthcare for all,” he affirmed.
Vision for 2025: A Developed India
In conclusion, the Prime Minister outlined his vision for 2025 as a milestone year for India’s development. He emphasized governance focused on public welfare, economic growth, and national unity.
“The year 2025 will usher in a new era of governance, marked by transparency, accountability, and a commitment to empowering every citizen. Delhi will play a pivotal role in this transformation,” he stated.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Manohar Lal, Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena were among the dignitaries present at the event.
