A New Year's Day terror attack in New Orleans' busy French Quarter left 15 people dead and several others wounded as a pickup truck barreled into a crowd. The driver, Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, was killed in a police shootout. Authorities are still probing if he acted alone.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents found firearms and improvised explosive devices in the pickup, as well as other explosives scattered within the French Quarter. The FBI is treating the incident as an act of terrorism, with signs pointing towards potential ties to the Islamic State group.

Surveillance captured footage of additional suspects placing explosive devices, leading investigators to consider other accomplices. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden confirmed an investigation into whether the attack was connected to an explosion at a Las Vegas hotel. The attacks have raised alarm over vehicle-ramming incidents becoming a frequent method of mass violence.
