The Maharashtra government has initiated actions to address grievances concerning fraudulent beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin Yojana. In response to these complaints, officials are gathering information from the Income Tax and Transport departments to verify the legitimacy of claims.
Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, on Thursday, announced that the government aims to focus solely on addressing complaints, not to overhaul the entire system. Under the scheme, launched last August by the then Eknath Shinde-led administration, eligible women receive a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500, significantly influencing the ruling party's success in recent elections.
While Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had indicated potential scrutiny, ministers clarified there is no broad-based drive for beneficiary auditing. Instead, case-by-case assessments will occur where income exceeds Rs 2.5 lakh or assets like four-wheelers are involved. Additionally, anomalies such as Aadhaar duplication, domicile issues, and false document submissions have been noted, prompting further investigation.
