The Maharashtra government has launched a targeted initiative to address complaints regarding fraudulent beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin Yojana. This move follows reports of individuals receiving benefits without meeting eligibility criteria. The government has requested data from the Income Tax and Transport Departments for thorough verification.
Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare stated that while no exhaustive re-evaluation of all beneficiaries will occur, the government is focusing on addressing specific complaints. Initiated in August of the previous year, the scheme aims to provide financial aid to eligible women, a factor cited in the Mahayuti's electoral success.
Issues such as Aadhaar mismatches, false documentation, and beneficiaries relocating outside Maharashtra are being investigated. The Ministry has begun a cross-verification process in districts reporting irregularities. Some beneficiaries withdrawing from the scheme have secured governmental employment, marking a significant update in the program's administration.
