Iran has committed to intervening in the case of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse sentenced to death in Yemen for manslaughter. The Iranian promise of aid is based on humanitarian grounds, reflecting the complexity of international relations in the region.
Nimisha Priya was convicted for the murder of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017. The Yemeni judicial system upheld her death sentence in 2023 after a trial court's initial 2020 decision. The case has garnered significant attention due to alleged overdose involvement in the murder.
India's Ministry of External Affairs has stated it is actively seeking solutions to help Priya. Her family and an action council have persistently appealed to the Indian government for intervention. Her mother, Prema Kumari, has made an emotional appeal to save her daughter's life amidst the escalating urgency.
