The Supreme Court, on Thursday, questioned why the Centre had yet to openly address the concerns of protesting farmers, who are demanding legal guarantees for the minimum support price (MSP) on crops.

A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan asked the Centre to respond to a fresh plea from farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, which seeks the implementation of proposals, including MSP guarantees, discussed after the repeal of farm laws in 2021.

The court stressed the need for genuine communication with the farmers, while solicitor general Tushar Mehta highlighted the government's concerns over influencing factors. Meanwhile, Petitioner Guninder Kaur Gill pressed for compliance with earlier commitments, underscoring the significance of prior resolutions.
