The attack occurred when a driver rammed a pickup truck into a crowd in New Orleans' French Quarter, lighting up Bourbon Street with chaos on New Year's Day. Law enforcement responded swiftly, resulting in the gunman being shot and killed by police.
Authorities, in conjunction with the FBI, are further investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, having found an Islamic State group flag on the truck's trailer hitch. The FBI does not believe the driver acted alone.
