In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday apprehended a contractual engineer and a peon from a Panchayat Samiti in Gondia district. The duo allegedly demanded a Rs 10,000 bribe from a beneficiary of a government housing scheme.
A private individual, running a small hotel, was detained for allegedly accepting the illicit money on behalf of the engineer and the peon. This incident highlights ongoing corruption challenges within government housing projects aimed at aiding economically weaker communities.
The Gharkul Yojana, involved in this scandal, aligns with national efforts like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to provide affordable housing. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act to bring those responsible to justice.
