In a dramatic display of public dissent, villagers in Massajog, Maharashtra, plunged waist-deep into a lake this week, demanding justice for their murdered sarpanch, Santosh Deshmukh.

The protest, known as 'jal samadhi,' follows the brutal killing of Deshmukh on December 9, allegedly due to his resistance against extortion demands linked to a local windmill operation.

Maharashtra police have arrested several suspects, with state leadership promising relentless efforts to apprehend those still at large.
