On January 1, Pakistan launched its two-year tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Ambassador Munir Akram has pledged that the Pakistani delegation will have an 'active and constructive' impact on the Security Council's proceedings.

Highlighting the nation's commitment, Ambassador Akram emphasized Pakistan's dedication to addressing the world's pressing issues in the face of significant geopolitical challenges. He described the current global landscape as marked by significant power competitions, ongoing conflicts across multiple regions, and an increase in arms races.

Pakistan, which enters the Council for its eighth term, secured its position with a substantial majority in the General Assembly's June election. Replacing Japan, Pakistan will work alongside both permanent and recently elected non-permanent members in efforts to promote peace and manage international disputes.
