On Tuesday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised serious allegations concerning the construction of a police outpost near the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, claiming it was being built on Waqf land. However, District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya denied these allegations, asserting that the land is municipal property.
Owaisi, in a post on platform X, stated that the construction violates the Ancient Monuments Act, which restricts developments near protected sites without National Monuments Authority approval. Tensions around the Mughal-era mosque had previously escalated into deadly violence in November, leading to calls for increased security.
Pensiya indicated that there is no verifiable documentation supporting Owaisi's claims, with presented documents lacking proper registration. The new police outpost aims to bolster security in the area, responding to both local demands and past unrest.
