In 2024, the Colombian armed forces achieved a significant milestone by seizing 626 metric tons of cocaine chloral hydrate, surpassing last year's figures by 35%, according to a statement by the armed forces general command on Tuesday.
Cocaine production and trafficking, coupled with illegal gold mining, continue to fuel a six-decade conflict that has resulted in the deaths of over 450,000 individuals.
Additionally, the frequency of confrontations with illegal armed groups, including leftist guerrillas, increased by 52% this year, reaching a total of 447 incidents.
