Anish Dayal Singh, the Director General of the CRPF, retired on Tuesday, passing the baton to senior IPS officer Vitul Kumar, who assumes the role of acting chief until a permanent appointment is made.
During his tenure, Singh, an IPS officer from the 1988 Manipur cadre, led the CRPF through a pivotal period marked by significant progress in the government's anti-Naxalism campaign. His leadership saw the establishment of over three dozen forward operating bases in LWE regions, the introduction of new battalions, and successful security operations during key elections.
Singh initiated a comprehensive restructuring within the CRPF to improve operational efficiency, aligning battalion locations for better troop welfare. This initiative, among others such as 'samvaad' sessions for dialogue with commanders, left a lasting impact as Singh's leadership concluded amidst a period of national mourning.
