In a bold political move, Bangladesh's interim government, under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus, announced its intention to prepare a 'proclamation of July uprising.' This comes after the government chose to distance itself from a similarly titled declaration proposed by the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement.

Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to Yunus, addressed reporters at a midnight press conference, sharing plans to include diverse participants and stakeholders, from political entities to student movements. The proclamation seeks to unify the people and reform the state as inspired by the July uprising.

The announcement has stirred responses across political lines. Awami League, displaced in early August, remains largely inactive. Meanwhile, the student movement, caught off-guard by the government's announcement, intends to hold a 'march for unity,' altering their initial plans. BNP leaders have expressed disapproval, urging amendment over abolition of the 1972 constitution.
