A court has sentenced Jahidul Islam, a Bangladeshi national, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for his role in radicalizing Muslim youths and funding terror activities in India. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed his offences include conspiracy, fundraising, and procurement of ammunition.
Islam, identified as the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh's (JMB) Amir of India, crossed into India illegally in 2014. He was allegedly involved in the 2014 Burdwan blast, an attack that resulted in two fatalities and one injury, according to the NIA.
After the blast, Islam and his associates moved to Bengaluru, where they recruited youths for JMB activities and orchestrated the Bodhgaya blast in 2018. They committed several dacoities in Bengaluru for funds, using the money for ammunition and hideouts.
