The Pentagon announced that a ceasefire between Turkey and U.S.-backed Kurdish Syrian forces around Manbij, in northern Syria, is holding. This development follows a temporary truce brokered by Washington earlier in the month after significant clashes in the region.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a key ally in the U.S. coalition against Islamic State militants in Syria, remain central to these efforts. The SDF is led by the YPG militia, an organization Turkey views as linked to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), outlawed for its long-standing insurgency against Turkey.

While Turkey considers the PKK, YPG, and SDF as terrorist entities, the U.S. and its Western allies only label the PKK as such. Approximately 2,000 U.S. troops stationed in Syria continue to collaborate with the SDF against the Islamic State, aiming to curb the group's resurgence reminiscent of its 2014 territorial grabs in Iraq and Syria.
