The parents of a boy who committed a mass shooting at a primary school in Belgrade were sentenced to prison for neglect and abuse. The father, Vladimir Kecmanovic, also faced additional charges for an aggravated crime against public safety.
In the tragic incident on May 3, 2023, the boy identified only as K.K., killed eight students and a security guard and wounded several others. Due to Serbian law, he cannot be tried because he was only 13 years old at the time.
The shocking event sparked massive anti-government protests across Serbia, leading to a snap election. Meanwhile, the shooter remains in a psychiatric hospital, and an instructor who trained him was also sentenced for perjury.
