The interim government of Bangladesh, under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus, has announced ongoing communication with both the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army, which has seized control of the 271-kilometer border between the two nations.
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury reported that Bangladeshi forces, including the Border Guard Bangladesh, are cautiously managing the border. Despite occasional gunfire and mortar exchanges, security has been maintained without significant issues.
With media reports indicating increased military presence, Chowdhury highlighted humanitarian challenges as thousands of Rohingyas enter Bangladesh illegally. Meanwhile, efforts to combat drug trafficking in Teknaf are underway, with officials urging community cooperation for intelligence sharing.
