The Bihar government has decided to extend its statewide land survey by one year, with the completion deadline now set for July 2026, according to a top official. Additional Chief Secretary Dipak Kumar Singh announced the extension in an effort to minimize citizen inconvenience and enhance transparency.
The initiative aims to digitize land records, reducing disputes and informing government land resources. Currently, the survey is nearing completion in 20 of Bihar's 38 districts. Historically, land disputes have presented significant law and order challenges in the state, with crime related to such disputes showing a notable decrease.
In alignment with the national 'NAKSHA' program for urban land records, the state is updating six urban local bodies. Additionally, the government is evaluating land donated during the Bhoodan Andolan to distribute to the landless, and plans to take over historical lands belonging to the Bettiah Raj estate.
