In a startling turn of events, a drug smuggler arrested with a substantial amount of morphine managed to escape police custody, prompting disciplinary actions against law enforcement personnel, according to officials.
Dinesh Kumar Singh, the Superintendent of Police, revealed that Asgar Ali, hailing from Mohammadpur village, was apprehended during a late-night operation on Saturday with 252 grams of morphine worth Rs 25 lakh near the Ratauli underpass. He was subsequently detained at the police station.
On Sunday afternoon, Ali ingeniously exploited a bathroom break to overpower the Home Guard Constable Vinod Pathak and flee with handcuffs still attached. Inspector Shobhit Shukla and Constable Faheem Ahmed faced suspension for negligence, and a legal case was filed against Pathak. Efforts are underway to capture the absconding smuggler with specialized police teams, including SWAT and crime surveillance units, mobilized for his apprehension.
