A groom and his family have been booked in connection with a significant dowry demand that nearly halted wedding plans, police confirmed on Monday. The case follows a court order after the family allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh, sparking distress from the bride's side.
Identified as Brijesh Kumar Mishra, his father Om Prakash Mishra, and elder brother Akhilesh, all residents of Kanwal village, the accused are now under scrutiny. They reportedly insisted on the hefty dowry payment just before the marriage to Pragya Dubey, scheduled for April next year, police stated.
The bride's father, Ravi Kant Dubey, reached out to the courts after local interventions proved unfruitful. On December 29, a case was registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act, following directives from the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate. The ceremonial engagement had concluded earlier, but peace was disrupted by the dowry demand made by the groom's family.
