In a significant technological breakthrough, Delhi Police successfully employed an artificial intelligence-based face recognition system to identify a notorious snatcher in the bustling Kashmere Gate area, officials revealed on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as 22-year-old Tofik, had previously been implicated in two criminal cases involving theft and snatching. On December 16, a vigilant patrolling team from the Kashmere Gate police station apprehended Tofik near the General Post Office. During their search, they discovered a mobile phone in his possession for which he couldn't provide proof of ownership, raising suspicion about its legitimacy.
The investigation escalated when a PCR call arrived reporting a snatched phone incident on a bus. The AI system subsequently confirmed the seized phone belonged to the complainant and verified the identity of Tofik. This case underscores the growing significance of AI technology in fortifying police efforts to combat crime effectively.
