Bitcoin Controversy: Craig Wright in Legal Battle Over Satoshi Nakamoto Claim
Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, who claims to have invented bitcoin, faces contempt of court charges. He has filed a colossal lawsuit against Block, owned by Twitter's Jack Dorsey, despite a previous ruling labeling his claims as false and imposing an injunction against such actions.
Craig Wright, an Australian computer scientist known for claiming he invented bitcoin, is embroiled in a new legal battle. On Friday, he was accused of contempt of court after initiating a lawsuit amounting to $1.18 trillion against Jack Dorsey's payments firm, Block, in the UK.
The legal contention follows a high-profile court ruling that discredited Wright's assertion of being the mysterious 'Satoshi Nakamoto', the pseudonymous creator of bitcoin. According to the ruling, Wright lied extensively, forging documents on a large scale. Legal restrictions now prevent him from litigating based on his disputed claims.
Despite these injunctions, Wright's recent actions against Square Up Europe, linked to Block, suggest a breach of court orders. Denying contempt of court allegations, Wright indicated willingness to amend the lawsuit, distancing it from ownership claims over bitcoin's creation. A hearing to address the contempt charges is slated for December.
