In an alarming case of cyber fraud, a doctor from Kottayam was duped by imposters pretending to be Mumbai police officials who falsely claimed he was under investigation for money laundering. The incident unfolded with the swindlers exploiting their victim's fear and extracting Rs five lakh under the guise of a 'virtual arrest.'

Kerala police's cyber cell, in collaboration with the State Bank of India, intervened after a suspicious transaction was flagged. An inspector dispatched to the doctor's residence discovered the fraudulent activity upon examination of the doctor's phone, leading to the immediate disengagement of the imposters.

The swift action by authorities, complemented by SBI's robust financial tracking system, resulted in the recovery of Rs 4.65 lakh. As cyber fraud incidents rise, officials urge public vigilance and recommend using helpline 1930 to report suspicious transactions immediately.
