In a recent session, the Lok Sabha learned that 51 specialists hired through lateral entry are actively engaged in various central government departments. These experts were chosen to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the bureaucracy.

Since the introduction of lateral entry in 2018, a total of 63 appointments have been made at the levels of Joint Secretary, Director, and Deputy Secretary. These roles are filled on a contract or deputation basis to enhance operational efficiency, as disclosed by Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh in a written reply.

When questioned about the impact of this recruitment mode on governmental efficiency and functioning, Minister Singh stated that while internal evaluations are conducted periodically, no comprehensive study has yet been performed.
