The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has committed to adhering strictly to rules that restrict the use of municipal parks for events to no more than ten days a month. This follows notification to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) about past non-compliance issues.
The move comes after a plea from a resident welfare association flagged violations, citing that Dussehra Park in Vikaspuri was booked for over ten days for religious events, contradicting MCD policies.
The NGT highlighted lapses by the MCD, citing their policies were not aligned with a Supreme Court directive. Subsequently, the tribunal imposed a Rs 25,000 fine on a MCD horticulture officer for failing to submit a report and incorrectly stating park usage information. Improvements in compliance and accountability are promised going forward.
