Foreign hackers recently breached the IT systems of Hungary's Defence Procurement Agency, but Prime Minister Viktor Orban's administration confirmed that sensitive military data remained secure. This incident highlights cybersecurity challenges faced by government agencies worldwide.
Gergely Gulyas, Orban's chief of staff, stated that the attack was carried out by a "hostile foreign, non-state hacker group." While the hackers potentially accessed military procurement plans and data, they did not breach national security information. An investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the breach.
According to Magyar Hang, a group named INC Ransomware was responsible for the breach and had encrypted and downloaded files from the agency's servers. As Hungary, a NATO member, ramps up its military modernization efforts, cybersecurity remains a crucial focus in ensuring national defense systems are fortified against such attacks.
