Ukrainian Strike Eliminates Senior Russian Naval Officer in Sevastopol
A bomb explosion in Sevastopol killed a senior Russian naval officer, reportedly executed by Ukrainian forces as a high-ranking target for war crimes. The deceased, identified as Valery Trankovsky, was linked to missile strikes causing civilian casualties in Ukraine. Russia's Investigative Committee regards the attack as terrorism.
A bomb exploded under a car, killing a senior Russian naval officer in Sevastopol, Crimea. The attack, deemed a Ukrainian operation, marked one of their major hits on Russian targets, with the serviceman associated with war crimes in Ukraine, including strikes on civilian targets.
The source identified the victim as Valery Trankovsky, a Russian naval captain and chief of staff for the 41st brigade of missile ships in the Black Sea. Reuters could not confirm his involvement in war crimes. Russian warships from the Black Sea Fleet have been used in attacks across Ukraine, allegedly leading to civilian casualties.
Russia's Kommersant newspaper and other sources corroborated Trankovsky's identity. Trankovsky and other pro-war figures were listed in Ukraine's Myrotvorets database. His photo displayed "Liquidated" after the attack on Taras Shevchenko street. Russia accused Ukraine of targeting pro-Russian figures since the war's onset.
