An elderly woman was tragically killed during a violent home invasion in a village under the Maharajganj Tarai police district. Unknown assailants reportedly broke into the residence where 70-year-old Saroj Singh lived, fatally suffocating her with a pillow.
The heist took place in the dead of night, with the intruders making off with cash amounting to approximately Rs 3 lakh, jewelry valued at Rs 8 lakh, and a licensed revolver. The break-in occurred as the rest of the family members slept, unaware in locked rooms.
Authorities, led by Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar, have deployed multiple police teams to catch the perpetrators. The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem, as the community grapples with this grave loss.
