In a sweeping effort to curb criminal activities, Delhi Police has launched another phase of Operation 'Kawach', successfully detaining around 1,000 people suspected of engaging in illegal activities such as possession of firearms, thefts, and drug offenses across the city, according to an official statement.
The operation, spanning over 24 hours, was a coordinated initiative by local police, the Special Cell, and Crime Branch. It aims to clamp down on crime and drug trafficking by targeting specific locales. A senior police officer mentioned that data collection from various districts is ongoing, with the number of detentions potentially increasing.
Detentions were made under various acts, including the Arms Act, NDPS Act, theft-related statutes, and the Excise Act. The police have also apprehended individuals, including juveniles, linked to gangs and incarcerated criminals. In specific areas like Dwarka, several associates of notorious gangs were detained for further questioning.
