SAFA Scandal: Danny Jordaan's Arrest Shakes South African Sports
SAFA President Danny Jordaan was arrested over allegations of misusing the organization's funds. He allegedly used funds for personal protection and PR services without proper authorization. The case, involving other accused, will continue in December. Jordaan denies the charges and is currently out on bail.
South African Football Association President Danny Jordaan was detained on Wednesday amid serious allegations of financial mismanagement within SAFA.
A central figure in securing the 2010 World Cup for South Africa, Jordaan attempted to pre-empt his apprehension with legal action, but the court case has now been postponed to December 5. Out on a 20,000 rand bail, Jordaan refutes the allegations of misconduct.
The charges stem from a police raid on SAFA's offices in March, following claims that from 2014 to 2018, Jordaan misused association resources for personal benefit, including unauthorized hiring of private security and public relations services. Co-accused Gronie Hluyo and Trevor Neethling also face charges, and the court has instructed them to avoid contact with the 19 potential witnesses. SAFA and Jordaan have yet to comment publicly.
