A group of masked protesters brandishing Nazi flags and donning white supremacist symbols disrupted a Michigan theater staging 'The Diary of Anne Frank' over the weekend.
According to a local ABC affiliate, the protest occurred at the American Legion post in Howell, Michigan. The Fowlerville Community Theater troupe, which brought to life the story of a Jewish girl hiding during World War II, confirmed the disturbance. The Livingston County Sheriff's Office did not respond to requests for details, while the Howell Police Department declared the incident was outside their jurisdiction. Calls to Howell's mayoral office went unanswered.
The theater group announced they became cognizant of the protest during the play's first act and assured the audience during intermission that the situation was handled. Bobby Brite, a former American Legion commander, recorded the event, noting that many theatergoers felt threatened and required escorts to their vehicles.
