In a key development for India’s defense capabilities, the Authority Holding Sealed Particulars (AHSP) of the P-7 Parachute System was officially transferred to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), a prominent DRDO laboratory located in Agra. The handover ceremony was led by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman, on November 11, 2024, at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi.

The P-7 Parachute System, successfully developed and qualified by ADRDE, is a significant achievement in India's defense technology, designed to enhance the rapid deployment of essential military equipment. Gliders India Limited (Ordnance Parachute Factory) in Kanpur was responsible for fabricating the system, which can safely deliver payloads of up to 9.5 tons from an IL-76 aircraft flying at altitudes of up to 4,000 meters. This capability is expected to strengthen the Indian Army’s logistics, allowing for quick deployment of Light Field Guns, vehicles, and other equipment directly to border and conflict zones.

Following the successful General Staff Evaluation, the P-7 system has been inducted into active service, with the Indian Army placing an order for 146 units from Gliders India Limited. This new system is expected to increase the mobility and tactical agility of Indian forces by facilitating heavy-lift, high-altitude payload drops, especially in remote and strategically vital areas.

The induction of the P-7 system marks a step forward in indigenous defense development, providing the Indian Army with a reliable aerial delivery system to support operational needs across challenging terrains and conflict zones.
