The Allahabad High Court has granted regular bail to 12 individuals involved in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, which resulted in the loss of eight lives. The court has mandated cooperation in the ongoing trial, cautioning that failure to do so could lead to the revocation of bail.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court granted bail to Ashish Mishra, the primary accused in the case, which saw the deaths of four farmers and a journalist, along with retaliatory actions against individuals in an SUV, allegedly including Mishra.
Presided by Justice Krishna Pahal, the bench took into account multiple legal arguments. While the state government opposed the bail, the court's decision was guided by the need for judicial expediency amid slow trial proceedings involving numerous witnesses.
