On Wednesday, the Supreme Court is expected to issue its highly anticipated verdict on the formulation of nationwide guidelines concerning property demolition. Heading the bench, Justice B R Gavai reserved the decision on October 1.
The bench made it clear that no religious structure obstructing public pathways, such as a 'dargah' or a temple, would be exempt from demolition, emphasizing public interest. The court also stressed that one's criminal status must not be a criterion for demolishing property.
This ruling addresses numerous petitions, prominently those from Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, against the demolition of properties, some linked to individuals accused in riot cases, in various states. Highlighting the secular principles of the Constitution, the court's decision aims to ensure justice and equality for all citizens.
