A Pakistani policeman has been apprehended in connection with a deadly suicide bombing in Peshawar, which claimed the lives of over 100 individuals, primarily police officers.

Inspector General of Police, Akhat Hayat Khan Gandapur, revealed the arrest of Muhammad Wali, known as Umar, a police constable who played a pivotal role in facilitating the January 30, 2023, attack in a high-security area. Among the slain were 86 policemen, and the attack injured 223 others.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation. Wali admitted to guiding the Afghan bomber into the Police Lines area and acknowledged joining Jamaat-ul-Ahrar in 2019 through Facebook. He was paid for the bombing. Wali's connections with the group's leadership in Afghanistan were established during a 2021 visit.
