The National Test House (NTH) has successfully conducted an advanced and customized test on “LED Tower Mast Lights,” designed specifically to endure extreme environmental challenges, such as sub-zero temperatures at high altitudes and the intense heat of arid desert regions. This test marks a significant step toward enhancing India’s self-sufficiency in advanced lighting solutions, particularly for critical infrastructure in remote and challenging terrains.
Comprehensive Testing at Lamp and Photometric Laboratory, Kolkata
NTH's Lamp and Photometric Laboratory in Kolkata led the testing, thoroughly evaluating the photometric, electrical, and ingress protection (IP) standards of the LED lights in accordance with Indian Standards IS: 16106-2012 and IS: 10322: Part-I-2014, as well as additional customer-specific requirements. A crucial aspect of the testing process included a High-Altitude Test, conducted at an altitude over 1800 meters in Darjeeling, West Bengal. This test confirmed the LED Tower Mast Light’s operational reliability, even when used alongside a generator set, in high-altitude environments.
State-of-the-Art Technology Ensures Precision
Equipped with advanced instruments such as a Goniophotometer and Spectro-radiometer, the Kolkata laboratory provides specialized testing for LED-based lighting systems. NTH’s facilities are aligned with India’s green initiatives, supporting the Government of India’s push for energy-efficient LED lighting in public and government buildings to promote cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
Unmatched Government-Backed Testing Facility with Global Accreditation
As India’s only government-controlled facility offering such specialized services, NTH is certified under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by NABL, ensuring both safety and performance testing across a wide range of LED products. By consolidating multiple testing services, NTH allows LED products to meet both national and international standards under one roof, fostering industry confidence and aiding in India's mission for self-reliance under the "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative. This initiative not only promotes local industry growth but also provides a world-class testing ecosystem, enabling companies to assess product durability within India instead of outsourcing to international facilities.
A Legacy of Quality Assurance Since 1912
Founded in 1912, the National Test House stands as India’s largest multi-location, multidisciplinary Central Government Testing Laboratory, and a key subordinate office under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution. NTH’s legacy includes substantial contributions to India’s scientific and industrial progress, supporting government projects, advancing product quality for local industries, and ensuring consumer protection.
Promoting Quality and Safety for India’s Industrial and Consumer Products
Through its wide-ranging services in testing, calibration, and quality evaluation, NTH plays a pivotal role in maintaining product standards across industries. Its testing framework supports a variety of sectors, ensuring that products comply with both national and international standards, thereby enhancing consumer confidence and ensuring safety in the Indian marketplace. The institution continues to support national goals, underscoring its mission to promote product excellence, consumer protection, and sustainable economic development in India.
