Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has stated that the law and order apparatus in the Union Territory is governed by the Centre. This comes in response to queries about escalating violence since the National Conference government assumed power in October.
Rather clarified that, as a Union Territory, Jammu and Kashmir's law and order is not a state subject, but falls under central jurisdiction. His comments were made during a folk music event held in the region.
The NC leader further disclosed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has instructed law enforcement to maintain vigilance as a countermeasure to the rising incidents of violence.
