The much-anticipated trial regarding the rape and murder of a doctor began on Monday in a Kolkata court, stirring intense public interest three months after the medic's body was discovered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Under the oversight of additional district and sessions judge Anirban Das, the hearings are being conducted in-camera, adding an air of mystery to the proceedings. Key accused Sanjay Roy, who attended the court session, vehemently denied the charges against him, insisting that he had been framed by authorities.
The case took a dramatic turn when Roy was apprehended by Kolkata Police shortly after the crime, and the investigation was later transferred to the CBI following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.
