A New Era for India's Judiciary: Justice Sanjiv Khanna Takes Charge

On his maiden day as the 51st Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna made an immediate impact by presiding over 45 case hearings. In a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, he was sworn in by President Droupadi Murmu.
The new CJI received a warm welcome from the legal community, including former attorney general Mukul Rohatgi, indicating strong support for his tenure, which coincides with a decade-long interval since a Delhi High Court alumnus last held the position.
Justice Khanna engaged actively with the courtroom, addressing issues such as the sequencing of hearings. He concluded the day's proceedings at 2.30 pm, notably addressing a state government's appeal concerning tax incentives, demonstrating his assertive stance on commercial matters.
